Reading plans for July

Thank you again for everyone's suggestions on my post here recommending books I should read during July. I have picked out the books suggested most often along with some of the earlier suggestions and have come up with this list.

The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
Perfume by Patrick Suskind
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
The House of the Mosque by Kader Abdolah
The World according to Garp by John Irving
Beloved by Toni Morrison

I have made a list of eight because a few of those books are not very long and after that lot during August I will read this.

This book is the oldest on my list and is one that I keep passing over purely because its 600 pages long and has small writing. But since so many people have recommended it I will read it in August and take my time with it.

On another note I also brought this today.

I figured if I'm going to jump on a literary bandwagon I may as well do it sooner rather than later ;)

  3. So glad you are going to take your time with East of Eden - I am so excited for you! It makes me want to pick it up and re-read it with you! Have fun with your other picks. Alice in Wonderland is a delight (very fast read). Beware of Beloved, it is pretty graphic (my high-school junior mind is still shattered somewhere in the state of Texas).

  4. I loved East of Eden when I read it nine thousand years ago. When I was in college. ;) I'm one of the few who extremely disliked The Shadow of The Wind, which doesn't make sense because the premise is totally engaging. But, the book for me? Not so much. Better luck for you!

  5. I am hearing so many good things about The Passage. I am not a vampire person but I think I could read this!

  6. Hi, make sure you choose an edition of Alice's Adventures with lovely illustrations. There are so many nice ones out there.

  7. Leah - East of Eden will be my first Steinbeck book so Im looking forward to it, pluss compared to the passage it doesnt look so thick.

Bellezza - Petty also hated The shadow of the wind so your certainly not the only one but I havent read bad reviews. I dont know if I will like it or not as its hard to tell sometimes, I know nothing about it.

Becky - I have to admit the passage was a complete impluse buy, I have just been paid and it was on speacial. Its just over 700 pages but since I read the Stand in March which was over 1,200 pages this doesnt seem so bad.

Delynne - I have a cheap copy of Alice in Wonderland at the moment, but if I like it there is a speacial edition I have my eye on ;)
